Nothing Extraordinary Happened Today

Nothing Extraordinary Happened Today

Nothing Extraordinary Happened Today

We wait for something memorable to happen... while life quietly continues without our attention.

We wait for something memorable to happen... while life quietly continues without our attention.

About 4 minutes

Nothing extraordinary happened today.

No milestones.

No celebrations.

No dramatic conversations that changed the course of my life.

If someone asked me what I did, I could answer in a sentence or two.

And yet...

I have a feeling these are the days that matter most.

We are taught to measure our lives by the extraordinary.

The vacations.

The promotions.

The weddings.

The summits.

The stories that are exciting enough to tell at dinner.

But our lives aren’t built there.

They’re built on ordinary Sundays.

On mornings that ask nothing from us except to be awake enough to notice them.

Perhaps that’s why they are so easy to overlook.

We mistake quiet for insignificant.

We assume the moments that matter are the big ones.

We wait for something memorable to happen...

while life quietly continues without our attention.

I wonder how many beautiful moments have gone unnoticed simply because they weren’t trying to impress me.

A cup of coffee.

The sound of sprinklers before the neighborhood is fully awake.

The comfort of knowing my boys are just a phone call away.

The birds showing up, as they always do, asking for nothing more than a handful of seed.

None of these moments would make the evening news.

None of them would earn applause.

Yet somehow...

they feel like the substance of a life.

Perhaps that’s what Sundays have always been trying to teach us.

Not to accomplish less.

Not even to rest more.

But to remember that a meaningful life isn’t something we’re chasing.

It’s something we’re either paying attention to...

or we’re missing.

Tomorrow will ask things of me.

Monday always does.

But today didn’t ask me to become someone else.

It simply invited me to notice the person I already am.

Maybe that’s enough.

Maybe it always has been.

Before you go…

Before you go…

Thank you for spending a few quiet minutes here. I hope you notice something beautiful today.

Thank you for spending a few quiet minutes here. I hope you notice something beautiful today.

Thank you for spending a few quiet minutes here. I hope you notice something beautiful today.

Sunday Morning

A quiet note for the beginning of the week. One reflection, sent slowly.
